Shadow
I don't mind being lonely but I hate being alone,
And it kills me every time I call that you don't pick up the phone.
You used to answer me on the first ring,
That was before you had him and I became nothing.
I can't even get a text, no response ever,
But I keep your name pulled up thinking I'm being clever.
Maybe I'll cross your mind, we'll become close once more,
But I'm doubting it, you already closed our door.
I'm just your forgotten shadow,
Clinging to your back, where you travel I follow.
How is it you never notice me?
The midnight silhouette you can't seem to see.
Take the time to look, just turn around,
You'll see me directly behind you on the ground.
Silently fading away as you walk on with a glow,
The new boy stole my spot, and I'm just your dying shadow...
I don't mind sleeping but I hate being asleep,
Because I don't wanna see you if you're not mine to keep.
When I begin to drift off into my slumber,
You reappear and once again we're together.
But I realize it's not real and awake in a cold sweat,
Knowing I'm the soul you worked hard desprately to forget.
I still carry the weight and all of the blame,
Which is okay with you because you erased my name.
I became what you wanted: a dimly shadow,
I told you whatever you say, I'll follow.
But you're one mistake was thinking my heart was hollow,
When you broke it, the words I wanted to say I would swallow.
Take me back to when you first said hello,
And every line I recited came out slow.
Because I was nervous and my sounds wouldn't bellow,
That's when you looked at me and told me to go...
