Smile, Pretend
No one notices how much she's really hurting,
how much she feels worthless.
she’s breaking apart deeper every night,
as she watches the tears fill up her room.
Knowing the next day what she'll be facing,
already knows what they'll say.
waiting till the day she turns 18,
the day she can be free,
escape from the pain inside.
Away from the monsters who try to pry,
that take a hold of her life.
tearing her from the inside out,
she believes there's hope and puts on a smile,
even though she's the only one who knows,
what’s awaiting her when she gets home.
You could say there's abuse,
but only mentally,
nothing physically,
but still it's challenging.
so afraid to tell let the words spill out,
aware of what would happen,
if the truth comes out.
By finding a hobby to help pad the landing,
so these lyrics are her voice,
her leverage,
music is her song,
when you've come this far already,
why turn back now?
one person told her to stay strong,
and one day she will move on,
this man has seen the worst too,
he understands what she’s going through.
gets so close to doing things she isn't proud of,
but isnt brave enough to paste the scars on,
she thinks of the only thing that truly makes her happy,
and that's what saves her every time.
keeps her from relapsing
falling into past rhymes.
Yet slowly her brave face is melting away,
like the candle that once held her flame,
the dark doesn't scare her anymore,
she's been in the darkness,
thousands of times before.
Through this misery I've learned lessons,
life is one fight after another,
but my story isn't over.
I will continue to be happy,
this war lasted too long,
I found who I am,
I have so many to prove wrong.

This is a song about my life, and the struggles I have had to face. I realized you have to stay strong and keeping moving forward. Everything happens for a reason.
