The Sun

The clouds scatter and the sun shines brightly
It warms the skin, the touch, the fire
The sinners and the saints stare up blindly
Equal in good and bad and all that’s dire

It shines day and night on the silver moon
Rain and hail and snow and all it burns on
In the morn, white light, in the afternoon
Rise and fall, always there at the next dawn

But a time will come when the darkness reigns
When not even the moon’s light will reflect
When the breath is still, ice flows through our veins
Life gone, life still, all things holy and wrecked

Distance and time to cure preordained fear
It’s just a star, today is yesteryear.

The idea of writing a sonnet scared me. It seemed too challenging to attempt but I did anyways and I'm glad that I did.
