Being Back Home
Is there a lovelier place than thy home
Where thou is showered with support and love
The streets thou know so well, which thou can roam
Attention and comfort that thou might crave
Overwhelming joy for a home cooked meal
Drowning in remarks made by thou siblings
Being gone for so long, it feels unreal
Returning with some nostalgic feelings
Even though thou might not have that much time
Time is a thief, which we can not ignore
So thou shall remember that this is prime
Appreciating all, not needing more
Thy home sweet no matter how big or small
Home shall always light up thy life through all

I am eighteen years old and attend the Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet at Townview. I am is half japanese and half mexican, and grew up in Japan for most of my life and moved to Texas when I was fifteen years old, leaving my mom and siblings. I wrote this sonnet to describe how I feel when I get to go back home during winter and summer break.
