As It Was Back Then
The young boy that sat on his cabin porch
Watched the children play, running back and forth.
Oh, how he wishes he could play with them,
But life was not the same as it was back then.
The young boy that lies on his cabin porch
Watch the sunlight fall, end its painless scorch.
Oh, how he wishes he could stay past ten,
But life was not the same as it was back then.
The young boy that cried on his cabin porch
Watched the starry night, shining with his torch.
Oh, how he wishes he could leave his den,
But life was not the same as it was back then.
Now the boy's grown up, and cancer's reached its end.
So life is now the same as it was back then.
