My Family
My family consists
Of books
Breeds
Open-faced expressions
Re-taught lessons
But mostly, of love
My family writes
Their own stories
And shares
Their own thoughts
Their own fairs
And at times, in whispers, how’d they felt alone
My family witnesses
Our distress
Our affection
What comes through
Our complexion
And is always there
To prop up our lives (with little wooden sticks)
My family loves
To complain
Their every rant
Is our fun little game
Still when things get too hard
We sugar-coat ourselves
In a protected atmosphere
So we know that we’ll get through as one
