Untitled War Poem
From day to day I think back and remember my brother's face,
Fighting your own country - not a worse existing disgrace.
The pain in his bloodshot eyes after I shot him in the chest,
But I couldn't let myself care - our troops gathered our gear and headed west.
Countless night I could not sleep - the meaning of it all on my mind,
Cannons exploding in mid-air, peace my country could not find.
While saluting to that flag, to my nation I dedicated my heart,
Unaware that in the end my glorious country this war would rip apart.
I fought North, my brother fought South and eachother we hated,
To this day the pain and bloodshed is clearly understated.
Now I am older and my wrinkles ask the question, "Why?",
When we started this war were we aware of just how many young men would die?
A soldier I shall aways remain; past the scar tissue I have a heart down under,
But the sad reality is, all we ever were, were just another enscripted number.
