sonnet by a Sinner
I cannot ignore my evil actions
Nor the necessary expiation.
So my mind pondered mutilation.
But I did not ponder the reactions.
I cut off my tongue and as well as my arm.
No violence or threats. No theft or deceit.
Gouged out my eyeballs. I can no more cheat.
No lust or greed. Never anymore harm.
But I did not ponder the reactions.
I can’t sing out or praise heavenly Grace.
I can’t play or help or even embrace.
I can’t look at life’s lovely distractions.
I tried and failed at giving repentance
And ended up with a worser sentence.
