Shadows

Shadows are following me
I am trapped between the shadows and the fence
My insane mind telling me
To go over the fence
But my legs wouldn’t move
I am paralyzed with fear
Seconds morph into hours, move
So slowly I could hear
The short silence between the chimes
DING—DONG, DING—DONG reach to my ear
The shadows moving in rhythm with the chimes
Even closer to me
Shadows reaching their black hands to me
