For Those Who Pity Themselves
Life is not easy
It throws obstacles in our way
Whether it is a trash can, extended leg
an insult or ignored “hey”
It pushes us to the ground,
And kicks us to the floor
Pound for pound
We feel we can do nothing more
“It is the strong who survive
And the weak that perish”
Is all we hear
as were thinking of excuses
But at the end of the day
No bully, obstacle, or fray
Truly tells us how we feel
It is us who creates this dismay
We can choose to run and hide
We can choose to lock our doors
We can choose to stay in our rooms and cry,
We can choose all the more
We only seem to make decisions for ourselves,
after someone has made it for us
Why not do this all the time
Is something we never try
I have no time
For those who have none for themselves
All I can say
Is to get up and keep going
Life is not easy
It throws obstacles in our way
We can choose to stay on the ground, weak and tired
Or we can choose to stand
Drop kick our attitude in the chest
And carry on with our lives with a smile
As nature had intended
Because life isn’t worth the self pity
Its worth the self respect
