"Should every raindrop hold within a dream..."
Should every raindrop hold within a dream,
I’d plucked the clearest from their dappled nest
And stow them hurriedly in my hat, lest
They should tumble, splitting at the seams
Threatening to spill what we alone deem
Sufficient to raise one above the rest;
The lesser drops are unintentionally blessed,
For dying is not always as it seems.
In ribbons I’d present to you my crop
Purified, condensed and magical.
There’d seem to radiate from the dream-drops
A cry; realizing that I am not
What I claim to be, they have giv’n all
And wept their tears: Their gold leaks without stop.
