My Smile
I hadn’t seen him since late May last year
She sat me down and she was quick and terse
A phone call from him was quite extremely rare
Before he came, I learned of the divorce
He thought my birthday was on the twenty-sixth
My birthday was on the twenty-first
He thought that I could easily be fixed
I tried to be strong, but I boiled up and burst
When it’s just me I can’t help but to cry
Then I met someone, the best of my best friends
My laughter, my smile, my joy, is all a lie
He was so sweet, completely genuine
Recently he became more than a friend
He’s the reason I’d smile ever again
