The Meaningless Riches: In imitation of The Lorelei
This world has devoured me
Stuck inside this rut,
My life’s obsessed with things
I’m bruised and broken like a cut.
Money has consumed me
I’m lost within my lusts,
I can’t escape their haunting
Life can be so unjust.
Clinging to earthly pleasures
I see how far I’m falling,
I’m blinded by my wants
I can’t escape their calling.
Moneys beautiful deception
Staring straight at me,
These things all mean nothing
Why can’t I see?
In the cool of night
I see no savior,
Bound to this way of life
No controlling my behavior.
My desires torment me
Each and every day,
Deep inside my own grave
This melancholy way.
I can’t awake my fitful sleep
Stuck inside these glitches,
This sea has overtaken me
And my life of meaningless riches.
