The Struggle
Would she write something different if she knew I was reading?
Hide the truth even deeper to stop this stranger from learning
of the pain she feels daily or of her craving for bleeding?
Or’s an Internet diary meant to publicize hurting?
For the words as I read them make me worry about her,
make me fear for her safety, her mental state and well-being,
though I don’t even know her, only by accident found her.
It’s important she knows that someone cares how she’s feeling.
Will it matter to her, though, that a stranger’s impacted?
Will the words she has written be taken down and deleted
if I tell her I saw them and about how I reacted?
Is there some way to help her, keep the harm unrepeated?
To the teenager struggling to keep her world from collapsing,
there are those who will listen. The help’s yours for the asking.
