the sun set long ago
The sun set long ago,
But I still feel it in the sky--
It stays, through wind and snow,
And leaves me asking why, oh, why?
I am here, living,
But sometimes it does not seem so
When my eyes once so forgiving
Now see, understand, bitterly know.
We must have it in our hearts, our minds, our souls--
That little hope, that little dream.
But the more that I grow old
The more I see it's all a scheme.
That I am disappointed is all I know.
Is this what it means to grow?
