The Race of Life

The runners made their way to the start line,
Silently suffering in anticipation,
Of the race that lay ahead of them, much maligned,
And oft described as the bane of creation;
The gun went off and all took off fast,
Speeding through the course like tigers chasing prey,
But soon enough, before much time had passed,
They slowed down, out of breath and dismayed;
But during this difficult time they realized,
That they never had taken the time to enjoy,
All their surroundings, which now had them mesmerized,
Showing them for the first time the feeling of pure joy;
So as they finished, the battle-worn horses advised the next young gunners,
To enjoy the ride, and not obsess over being the frontrunner.
