There is a lot of unseen people behind the scenes of America that make the country work. “Who are the people who pick our vegetables, grow beef, haul our stuff to the market place, make our trash disappear, more over how did that become such a difficult question to answer”(Laskas 3). In Hidden America you learn about these people and how they keep America going. I for one enjoyed learning about them , I can say I have a better understanding of how things work and what it takes to keep America going.

Laskas traveled all over America to talk to these people let them be known. “The aim of
my research presumed that the people of Hidden America wanted to be known”(Laskas 5) she
wanted the people of America to know who keeps everything going. Laskas goes in to a good
amount of detail about each job that she went too. Reading about each job and how different
each one was from each other and how much of a role they play in America. It doesn’t matter job it is they all have a role in America big or small it helps keep America going.

The jobs Laskas visits in the book are all completely different from each other. From coal mining to cheerleading to air traffic control and more different job all over the country. This
quote from the book is a good example ” I’m inviting America to steal a glance into these
worlds, some hugely complicated industries, some tiny and private contributions, to wander with me and consider the everyday anew” (Laskas 4). She wanted America to stop taking things for granted and appreciate the hard jobs no one ever talks about.
Hidden America explains many jobs in America that no one really know about or just
don’t care to ask about. Laskas knew what she talking about in each job meaning she did a good deal of research. The book kind of just sucks you in and not want to put it down. Many of these jobs are extremely hard on the body and are very demanding. Every chapter gives you a full look on each job and how it works. Laskas travelled across America to inform us about these jobs and to stop taking things for granted.
