When I first saw the cover for Bodyguard, I thought it was some rip off of a Rick Rordan book just without the magic. I couldn’t find nothing else to read, so I read a couple pages and the book had me hooked! After reading book one and being left with a cliffhanger I started reading book two as fast as I could.

This action packed adventure series is about a young teenager named Carter being recruited into a secret service. The secret service S.H.I.E.L.D was made for important people who need protection from skilled  undercover “kids”. The backstory is well explained and easy to understand. Connor is a kick boxing champion whose dad worked for Shield, but unfortunately Connor’s dad died in his line of work. This leads to the leader of Shield who was Connors dad’s best friend, offering Connor to join Shield.

Connor undergoes training, but has a headstart from his kickboxing experience. Shield then is informed the President Of United States needs a  bodyguard to protect his daughter. The president chooses Connor and this is where Book 2 starts. In Book 2 Connor goes through difficult trials to save the President’s daughter from being kidnapped and in the end defeats the bad guy cliche.

This series is very creative with the backup of good action scenes. The descriptions are easy to picture and are pieced together well. The plot was confusing at first, but the more you read the characters fill in the missing information. This author Chris Bradford made me finish Book 1 and 2 in less than a week with his unique writing. I couldn’t put the book down like I was under a magic spell.

The character Connor goes through a lot of character development. I believe Connor is a true hero and always puts others over himself. In page 190 it states, “Connor launched himself toward Alicia” then Connor used his body to block gunshots fired at Alicia. He took a bullet literally for her!

I don’t think this is some rip off Rick Rordan without the magic anymore. In my opinion I think this series could rival some of Rick Rordan’s novels. If you are hungry for action then this book will put you in a world full of unique characters each with a unique way to fight. I would recommend this book to other.
