Divine Misfortune by A. Lee Martinez is wacky through and through. This whimsical book revolves around the seemingly bland lives of Teri and Phil, a young married couple whose lives are completely devoid of worship to any deity.

However, in a world filled to the brim with divine intervention not worshiping a god or goddess is something of a taboo. When Phil is passed up for a promotion again they turn to Pantheon.com, an online service that allows deities in search of worshippers to get in touch with worshippers in search of deities. When the two finally land on Lucky, a raccoon god of minor fortune who only asks for a place to crash and the occasional offering or two they see it as a chance they can’t pass up. But, things aren’t as simple as one would think.

A Pratchett-esque comedy from start to finish, this isn’t a book to be placed back on the shelf. If you’re into witty stories of divine love triangles this is just the book for you. While this book may not leave you pondering the reasons for existence or even wishing for more, it concludes with a satisfying story and a relatable host of characters.
