Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

It’s moving day. You’re a widow with four small children. Just before moving day, your smallest child catches a serious cold, unable to move. If you move on moving day, it will cause your son’s death. If you wait and not move in time, the whole family dies... tough situation, huh? Well Mrs. Frisby, a small mouse, has the same problem. As she races against time, she is determined to keep her family safe.

This is an exciting and fun medium-paced story that really touches your heart. Robert does a great job at making the animal characters like humans. He gives them characteristics the would remind you of that animal. For example, the main character in this story (Mrs. Frisby) is a mouse who is very shy and scared- just like actual mice. This makes the story seem real... even though of course it is not. Another thing I liked was the detail. It was very nice to easily be able to picture what you're reading without any confusion whatsoever.
What I didn't like was that this book was a little but slow paced and stays at a relatively slow speed. It's not boring, it just doesn't have any huge climaxes like a lot of books. So, before you put this book down... it gets better. Trust me. I think most people will relate to Mrs. Frisby because she is shy, and stuck between two problems that either way, are most likely destined for tragedy. Although, there can always be a loophole out if you have faith, which is the theme of this book.
This book is motivational and happy. Not completely sad, or devastating. Not action-packed or exhilarating. Just a nice read that kind of makes you feel good inside. To me, Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of Nimh is a book for ages 10+. I say this because it may be a fantasy, but it has no sign of a specific age limit. To me, this shows how families and cities and communities should be; doing everything you can to be the solution to someone else's problems. It's amazing to see Mrs. Frisby's courage and never ending fight to keep the ones she loves safe. I strongly recommend reading this beautifully written fictional book, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.
