After seeing Devil Wears Prada, the movie, I was excited to get my hands on the sequel, Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. It takes place a few years after Andy Sachs ditched Miranda Priestly, the editor of Runway Magazine. Since, Andy has teamed up with her ex-nemesis, Emily, from Runway and together they have created the first high fashion wedding magazine. She is engaged to Max Harrison, a successful businessman and we cannot forget, handsome! Soon after the fairytale comes to life it begins to crumble… nothing turns out how it should. Just when she thought she escaped the darkness she realized that she may be becoming the devil herself.

Right from the start I was hooked. Lauren Weisberger writes in an easy way that just about anyone could follow. Whether it is the vivid detail of each character in every scene, such as, “The receptionist, a little brunette with an almost too-severe bob and a jolting shade of red lipstick, forced a smile that looked more like a smirk” (174). Or the settings she portrays in each new scene,
“…Runway: an anteroom with two immaculate assistant desks fronting open French
doors that revealed a massive office with sweeping views, elegantly decorated in muted
shades of gray and white with occasional pops of soft yellow and turquoise and modern
held photos of now-eighteen year olds Caroline and Cassidy each one appearing
pretty and vaguely hostile in her own distinct way, the carpet stretched wall to wall
in an expanse of shocking while its only color a lone wild streak of turquoise. Andy
had just noticed the enormous tapestry on the far wall, a stitched fabric creation meant to look like a painting, when a door within Miranda’s office opened and the women herself emerged” (175).

Weisberger writes so well, you can see the pages come to life. What I liked most about reading this novel was how easily I could personally relate. Going into a career of fashion isn’t easy by any means, but throughout the novel Andy rides the roller coaster of life and got everything she wanted in a way no one could have ever thought. “It lasted only a couple of seconds, but it was the most natural, wonderful feelings in the world…” (381). Andy taught me more about myself than I could have ever wished to know, how to stay strong and firm about what I believe regardless of how hard it may seem.
“Don’t you say another word, this is my magazine, my career, and you
prance in here under some supposedly selfless reason of saving me from
myself… duping me so you can try to repair the company your family drove
to the ground. Well, guess what? It’s not going to be on my watch. You can go
to hell. You can tell them I’m out or I will. Apparently I can’t undo this deal, but I
can sure as hell hand in my resignation, effective immediately”(348).

Whether it is a boyfriend or a best friend, one must never turn their back on their beliefs, in the end everything will turn out in your favor.

If you want a relatable, business savvy woman in control, a love story or just an easy read, Revenge Wears Prada is a must read for this summer. It is perfect for a picnic or the beach. It’s a quick novel I assure you won’t want to put it down.
