Will Grayson Will Grayson

“But being friends, that's just something you are. But I do pick you. We've been friends too long to pick, but if we could pick, I'd still pick you.” - Will Grayson Will Grayson. Friendship and truth are two major themes in the bestseller book Will Grayson Will Grayson, by John Green and David Levithan. Published on April 6, 2011 by Dutton Juvenile, Will Grayson Will Grayson is a heartwarming, comedic novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat on every page. John Green wrote all the chapters for one main character, and Levithan wrote all the chapters for the other. Miraculously 36 year old John Green is also the author of 4 more incredible best selling novels, Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns, and The Fault in Our Stars. Will Grayson Will Grayson is a hilarious must read for all teens/young adults who are looking for an amazing book to read.
Will Grayson #1 (whose chapters contain capitals) has two rules: "1. Don't care too much. 2. Shut up. Everything unfortunate that has ever happened to me has stemmed from failure to follow one of the rules." - Will #1. He is the best friend of the soon-to-be high school musical director Tiny. Tiny is described as "the world's largest person who is really, really gay" or "the world's gayest person who is really, really large". Tiny's hilarious gay musical is about the story of his life; love, hardships, tragedies and ridiculously funny moments. “Phil Wrayson” (who in “no way has any relation to my best friend Will Grayson”- Tiny) is a main character with the role of Tiny’s best friend in the play. Will and Tiny have been friends since 5th grade, and nothing has ever come between them. That is until the start of Tiny’s play, when Will and Tiny slowly start to drift apart as Tiny begins to only concentrate/talk about and think about his play.
The other Will Grayson, Will Grayson #2, (whose chapters do not contain capitals) is clinically depressed and is what we call a “total loner”, especially at school. Will #2 is quiet and doesn’t like interacting with people, which is the main cause of him being a loser. Unless you count a person he met online named Isaac, who he has never met in person, Will #2 has no friends. One night, Will #2 is on his way to go meet Isaac for the first time in an extremely weird place in Chicago. Tiny and Will find coincidently themselves in the same part of Chicago that night, attending a concert nearby. After a strange, and exceedingly hilarious turn of events, Will Grayson #1 finds himself face to face to Will Grayson #2. The two boys, are freaked out at first, but in the end both of their lives are changed forever. A love story twisted with a meaningful, entertaining, amusing plot, Will Grayson Will Grayson is a wonderful book that everyone should read.
Will Grayson Will Grayson has several similarities and differences to the book Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a high school boy, Charlie, who doesn’t have friends. He sticks to himself, until he meets a group of older classman who take interest in him and want to become friends. They become the closest of friends and Charlie learns to be himself . Will Grayson Will Grayson is similar in the way that Will #2 didn’t have friends, he was silent, insecure and was very unsure of himself. But when he met Tiny and Will, they brought out the best in “will” and showed him who he really was. While Perks of Being a Wallflower is mainly about one boy named Charlie and how he becomes himself, Will Grayson Will Grayson is about will and how he changes Will and Tiny’s life, and how they change his. But, the two books still share the similar theme of friends helping you become who you really are.

Will Grayson Will Grayson doesn’t only show you that friendship is important, but it teaches people to be themselves and not hide who they are. This story teaches you that friendship is the true key to happiness. You might think you are happy, being silent, not voicing your opinion and not having friends, but you will never reach the point of true happiness without a friend to live your life with. The book is about all the characters trying to figure out what to live for, all of them being a friend. Both Will Graysons teach each other how to be themselves and to not be afraid of the world and all the mysterious challenges, people, and adventures it holds. When I read Will Grayson Will Grayson, I had to force myself to put it down, for it really captures your attention and I would always lose track of time while reading it. On a scale of 1-10 (one being a horrible book you want to throw out the window, and ten being a book you reread over and over and still never get tired of) I would give Will Grayson Will Grayson a 10! I think you should go out and get the book now for it is a wonderful, enjoyable read that you will love reading from cover to cover.
