The Echo from Heroine

Do you think girls and boys in India have the same quality of life? Let’s learn about the India’s History through the book Homeless Bird which was written by Gloria Whelan. This book is about a young girl named Koly who her own parents forced her to leave the family at thirteen and marry someone at young age like many girls in India, she will leave home forever unlike her brothers who don’t have to struggle to this kind of situation and get to have an education. There are many complexity in the story which something seem like a real story that happen all the time in human’s life, but what will Koly’s life be after her marriage. Do you have any ideas about Koly’s new family members? I really liked this story.

Koly was born in a poor, Indian family. She has one older brother, Glopal and one younger brother, Ram. Koly wants to learn how to read and write but her parents not allowed her to have an education and every woman in Koly’s family embroidered. When Koly was thirteen, Koly’s parents want Koly to marry so they arranged the marriage for their only daughter. On her wedding day, Koly was shocked about her marriage and her new life but it’s too late for her to turn back. Koly finds herself lost in the strange and dark world where she can’t find her way out. What will happen next if Koly finds her out of the strange and darkness world? Well, I recommend you to read this book and you will find out very soon!

The author's comments:

Firstly, I really like this book because I think Homeless Bird is quite an interesting book. I think it is interesting because it is based on the Indian’s history and the Indian’s traditional and how people from different parts of the world have different opinion. Sometimes people think differently because of their environment teach or maybe the way their parents teach them. In the first chapter, Koly’s parents arranged a marriage for Koly in which Koly’s parents tells Koly that she growing every day and it is time for Koly to have a husband.

Secondly, this book has impressed me very much and I really like the protagonist, Koly because she wants to learn new things. This book had make me cry several times which my eyes turned red. When I read this book, I imagined myself stand in that awful situation and surrounding with a young, innocent widows. This book can be a mirrors for someone who parents support them to have a high education and a good quality of life.
