The Best Review I Read All Summer...
The Help, by Kathryn Stockett is a must read for all. The Help keeps you entertained by reading about the lives of colored maids during the 1920s, in Jackson, Mississippi. This book was written to tell facts and made up stories told by maids in the south.
Skeeter comes home from Ole Miss, to a cotton plantation in the south. Skeeter grew up with a maid, named Constantine. Skeeter immediately notices that constantine had left. Skeeter then searches for a job and finds one, writing the "Miss Myrna" column for The Jackson Journal. Skeeter asks one of her friends maids for help, Aibileen. Aibileen is a hard working maid by taking care of May Mobily all day, to doing household chores when she can. As Skeeter and Aibileen work together each evening Skeeter developed an idea, and tells a publisher in New York. The publisher replies back within days and tells her she's interested. Skeeter tells Aibileen, Aibileen decides to help Skeeter with the book. Skeeter meets at Aibileens every night. Minny, Aibileens best friend, soon finds out and wants to help with the book also. When the book is finished it is set in a fictional town, and published.
This book overall is a very well written book. This book is very true to what happened and to what could've happened in real life. This book tells about the struggles and heartache that these maids went through every day of their lives.
In conclusion, I think this is a very interesting book to read, and I believe that everyone should give this book a chance, even though it is kinda long. Reading this book is a very good way to put yourself in the positions of the maids, and to understand what the maids went through during the 1960s. This book is written in first person by three different people. I rated The Help by Kathryn Stockett 4.5 out of 5 stars, because even though this is a good book it still has its flaws.
