Middle School is hard time for us all me especially. A good thing to have handy is a good book. My first young adult novel by James Patterson, Maximum Ride. Maximum Ride was one of those series that could transport me to another places. Maximum Ride was a series of nine books. My favorite of the series was Maximum Ride Forever, or the ninth and last book of the series. In order to understand the last book one must have read the other books in the series, but the idea of the books are general but the readers who skip to the last book won’t be able to acknowledge the small details. Every book has been carefully connected to each other.

The beginning of Maximum Ride is meeting what made Max,well Maximum Ride. Max’s Family of unrelated children, Max being the oldest was the leader. The only difference about her family members is the children have wings and leave in a house far above the ground. All of the children at a young age were raised in a lab and tested on. The children one faithful day escaped from the lab and were raised by the scientist that helped them. The scientist mysteriously disappeared but the children remained safe and untouched until one day when the youngest member, angel, was taken again by the lab. This simple action set off in an adventure to find the “flock”s youngest member. Once she was received the scientists and running away from them ended in the beginning of the apocalypse which is the end of “Nevermore”, the eighth book and the beginning of Maximum Ride Forever.

Maximum Ride Forever is the afterwards of the apocalypse where the flock believes they are alone. Some members of the flock believe otherwise that someone must have survived. They find out the lab had made other mutants and some members gathered the good mutants up. The scientist who created the mutants had altered themselves as well to survive and change the world to their evil image. The flock and the mutants joined forces to go against these evil scientists. At the same time as the war between the mutants and scientists there is a love triangle between Max, Fang, and Dylan. Fang is the boy of Max’s dreams that she has grown up with and knew her whole life. While Dylan is a clone that was created for Max to reproduce with her. The two boys fight over Max. The end of the war brings many questions from the series are answered. Max makes the decision, one side wins the war, and the end has the biggest surprise nobody was expecting.

This book is one of my favorites of all time. It will keep you in the very edge of your sit till the very end of the book. My opinion of the ending is that it gave me the ending that I desired. It ended the book in a fashion of this isn't the end it’s only the beginning. There is a perfect mixture of love, action, and science fiction in this book. I suggest readers who want to be thrilled read this book it will not disappoint. The beginning is slow but as you read farther it goes a lot faster and gets more interesting. James Patterson does a unique writing style of going from first person to third so the reader can connect with the characters but can also know everything that is going on. The author is tricky leaving the reader in the dark with just enough light to figure out what might happen. So if you are a thrill seeker with a soft spot for romance this may be the perfect book for you!
