The Giver by Lois Lowry is a science fiction book. Once the reader reads the first couple pages of the book, they are instantly sucked into the story. As the reader will soon understand, Jones is a bit different from the rest of the society and is given more opportunities. Jones is given the power to feel things like love and pain. He is able to see color, lie, but also knows the truth about every secret because he's the Memory receiver. The society they live in controls how the people live their lives, even their family are chosen for them. Everyone in the society is given a certain job or assignment. Some people are given the assignment of being a  Nurture, Birth mother, Doctor or whatever the person is fit to become. An issue that this book brought to my attention is how controlled the society that Jones was living in the people had no clue on how to live life. They were considered live beings but acted similar to robot, but by having people act like this would cause no chaos and a simpler life and it would be easier to control a society that is calm.
