This science fiction novel by Max Brooks is a collection of different interviews with people after the zombie apocalypse. And I gotta say I really enjoyed the format of the book. It worked even better when it showed how each country reacted to the apocalypse. Israel for example, built a wall days before the apocalypse even happened. Other countries just flat out covered up the possibility of a zombie apocalypse even happening! But since the book is all over the place it has some flaws. The characterization was lacking due to the short interviews giving little if any background on the character, but this is all made up with the diversity of the stories during the apocalypse it’s very interesting and thought-provoking making me think about what I would do if I were in the same situation. The plot was easy to follow and on to the point. There were a few cliches the most notable were the zombies themselves. They were slow moving, groaning, and pretty strong This made the book a tad bit dull. One of my favorite lines in the novel was “Lies are neither bad nor good. Like a fire they can either keep you warm or burn you to death, depending on how they're used.” (Brooks 182)  This quote perfectly describes the novel by describing how different countries worked with or without their citizens to maintain humanity. Another good quote was “The monsters that rose from the dead, they are nothing compared to the ones we carry in our hearts” (Brooks 231) This describes how the greatest enemy besides the zombies, us humans.  I would totally recommend this novel if you’re into  apocalyptic books or science fiction, then this would be very good read!
