“The Boxcar Children,” is a book written by Gertrude Warner. It was published in 1924 by Rand McNally and illustrated by Mary Ellen Ellsworth. This book is meant to be animated and fun for the whole family. The Boxcar Children is based on four children and a dog. Their names are Henry, Jessie, Violet, Benny, and the dog is named Watch.  They are two boys and two girls that are orphans and live in a boxcar that Jessie found during a storm.
        

These kids live alone and must support each other to survive. They are orphans that do not want to live with their grandfather because he did not like their mother. The name of their grandfather is James Henry. They also met Doctor More and his wife, Mrs. Moore. They give a job to Henry, so he can buy food for his brother and sisters.
        

They live in a boxcar found in Silver City, far away from their grandfather that lives in Greenfield. Henry and his siblings did not like to go to Greenfield because they did not want to see him, but they have too. Doctor Moore and Mrs. Moore are important characters because when Violet gets sick with a cold, they cure her. They also contribute to helping the kids get closer to their grandfather by doing a dinner, where they invite the grandfather of the children, so they can meet each other.
        

The conflict that they face is that they have a grandfather that they do not like. “We have a grandfather in Greenfield, but we do not like him,” said Benny. They were always running, trying to prevent his grandfather from finding them, but at the end, they end up living with him in a big mansion. They appreciate their grandfather and their grandfather also ends up loving them, even though he did not like their mother.
        

In conclusion, this is a great book and I would read this book more than once. I learned that even if you do not have a lot of money or if you live in the middle of nowhere, we can still be happy because the most important thing in this world is the family. It also teaches me that we should not judge others without knowing the attitude of the person. This is the best book I have read because you learn so much and it makes you laugh. I love this book!
