This is the second book written by the co-authors exploring the adventures of Mackenna Reid, Duncan, and Veronica. While I did not have the opportunity to read the first book, I was able to understand what had happened previously. One aspect of the book that I enjoyed was references to modern-day musicals, such as Les Miserables. I also enjoyed how it was written I alternating perspectives between Veronicaq and Mackenna, which provided more insight as how Doon appears to very different best friends. Despite the 350+ pages, it was a quick-read because I craved to find out if Mackenna could not only save Doon but make up for her past. A good read for anyone interested in fantasy.
