Blade Runner 2049 is the sequel to the famous Blade Runner and continues the franchise wonderfully. As the movie's name would suggest, the film that showcases what life is like in 2049. In in the year 2049, a new set of replicants have been created, and these replicants have been created to take orders much better than the old ones, due to their far superior programming. Because of this, they are hired to become Blade Runners and hunt down and kill the remaining replicants. One of these Blade Runners is named Officer K, and he's ordered to eliminate a replicant that was created from two other replicants. The police force feels that if the general population finds out that two replicants were able to create life, everyone would freak out and cause a massive amount of mayhem that wouldn't be able to help anyone. As a way to help hide the truth, Officer K is tasked with saving the world from a great deal of chaos. Officer K starts to investigate the case, and after following all of the clues, he soon learns the truth about the long-buried secret, and it goes so much farther back than he could have ever imagined. Because of his ground-breaking discovery, he goes looking for Rick Deckard, who happens to be the protagonist from the first movie, but he's been missing for 30 years. Meanwhile, an evil villain begins to hunt down Officer K and injure everything that he cares about, just as he begins to unravel others secrets. 
 Blade Runner 2049 is overall a triumphant sequel to the classic original and manages to live up to expectations. The beginning of the movie brilliantly jump starts the movie in a manner that proudly sends audiences to the future. However, the middle of the movie isn't really that marvelous and doesn't add that much significance or substance to the movie. Instead, it just helps to make the film slightly more confusing and less interesting. But the movie is able to save itself later on. The enticing ending of the movie continues everything that the rest of the movie helps to set up and is easily one of the best parts of the entire film. The end of the movie is exhilarating, thrilling, and has an absolutely superb twist that helps to elevate the conclusion to the next level. 

 Although the plot of Blade Runner 2049 is great for the most part, minus parts of the middle section, the movie feels very long and carried out. Although this is mostly just in the middle, other parts of the movie feel the same way. In fact, the movie is a whopping total of two hours and forty-four minutes. The long length of the movie could have worked, but, instead, a good portion of the movie just feels like dead weight that doesn't add to the greatness of the movie. In fact, parts of the movie don't seem necessary at all, and one of the characters doesn't seem to really serve a purpose whatsoever. One thing that comes to mind is that Officer K has an extremely odd relationship with another robot, and the entire relationship is just confusing and really doesn't seem to help progress the movie in any way, even though a fair chunk of time is dedicated towards having their relationship with one another develop. 

 With that said, Blade Runner 2049 is able to continue to succeed with elucidating similar themes as the original, and it continues to show what the essence of being human is, as well as the power of memories, experiences and the impact that they have on humans. The vivid visual effects are simply spell-binding and help to define the futuristic setting that the movie takes place in, helping to make even more realistic. These spectacular special effects benefit the movie greatly, and there are many fantastic moments that are made possible because of these visuals. 

 Not only does Blade Runner 2049 sit well with viewers, but critics also felt a great deal of satisfaction with the film. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie an impressive 87%, and IMDb gave the movie a magnificent 8/10, which is actually much better than it sounds. A fairly solid 83% of Google users liked the movie, which is actually sort of low, but that is probably a direct effect of the movie being too slow-paced and elegant for generally younger audiences. 

 Although Blade Runner 2049 isn't perfect, it has a lot of things going for it, and as a result, Blade Runner 2049 is more than deserving of people designating time to go ahead and watching the movie, since it is overall well worth the time.
