San Andreas
San Andreas proves to be an epic natural disaster film that combines together drama, intensity and so much emotion to create a truly action-packed adventure. The movie revolves around the state of California, which seems to be going through just another perfectly ordinary day in the state of sunshine until everything goes sour. When the San Andreas fault in California, which is one of the area's most famous faults, if not the most famous, begins to experience some strange events, everything goes wrong. This results in the creation of a devastating earthquake that is nothing short of a raw horror, and it also just happens to be the largest earthquake in recorded history, which is a fairly notable feat. The Earth soon experiences drastic results, including having the Earth crack open and having the city of San Francisco go through plenty of chaos and mayhem. Buildings begin to crumble from the shear force of the earthquake, and the destruction of buildings makes the people inside of these buildings to fear for their lives. This is when the movie begins to spotlight on Ray Gaines, who is soon forced to deal with plenty of other problems, as well as the natural disaster going on. Ray Gaines must deal with issues with his wife and daughter, who Ray hasn't been visiting as much recently, especially due to the family problems they have been going through, and this is made even worse by the fact that Ray specializes in searching and rescuing citizens in a helicopter as a pilot. Ray quickly decides to use his skills as a rescuer to attempt to save those he cares about the most, but in the process, he must deal with severe consequences that could spell doom for him and his entire family. Meanwhile, the state of California must deal with unprecedented geological problems that result in massive earthquakes, gigantic tsunamis, and the end of the famous city of San Francisco as the world has come to know and love it.
San Andreas may only be simple in its premise, but it proves to be so much more than that. The movie is nothing short of a purely exhilarating adventure that combines together action and the crude threat of ferocious nature at its fiercest to thrill audiences. In fact, this tale is able to raise the stakes so much that intensity and drama only come along with natural ease, and this is made effective by the fact that it becomes clear the movie isn't afraid of having death pose as a major factor. Throughout the whole adventure, it becomes abundantly clear that just about any and every character might meet his or her last moment in a fatal accident, and this means that audiences can't help but be glued to the screen in anticipation for what comes next.
San Andreas is a disaster movie, like so many other films, but it proves to be one of the most enjoyable adventures in the genre by a significant amount. The movie is beyond all words, and it's unique ability to conjure such a grand amount of emotion, passion and drama can only be cited as a result of its fantastic cast that oozes with talent. Dwayne Johnson is spectacular, as per usual, with his portayal of Ray Gaines, and he manages to bring plenty of emotion, passion and intensity to the role, which adds plenty of realistic drama to the movie. This creates an enormously compelling character that is filled to the brim with plenty of pure charisma. Alexandra Daddario is terrific as Blake, who is Ray Gaines' daughter, and she ensures that the movie is entertaining as one of the movie's most likable characters. While there are plenty of other notable roles, like Paul Giamatti's Dr. Lawrence Hayes, the real heart and soul of the movie is the superb performance from Dwayne Johnson.
San Andreas is a true blockbuster that is filled to the brim with fantastic scenes, which make the movie cool and inspired more often than not. The movie may not be perfect, and occasionally relies too heavily on visuals instead of plot details, but there's no denying that the cast gives it all they have and the movie's original concepts are used as effective fuel. Without a doubt, this is definitely worth giving a chance.
