whiplash: the short film
Whiplash is a great movie; the teacher's passion for music drives him beyond abusive extraordinary levels. His psycho-crazy characteristics bring out his passion in the short film and Neiman just taking the punishment is crazy to watch.
It kinda takes you by surprise especially the part where he's talking to Neiman and he's asking him about his family and he's telling him about the greats of drumming and he tells him one part of a famous drummer buddy rich and how he got a cymbal thrown at his head which leads him to greatness. He, later on, starts to drum and he's making a small mistake not being on his tempo. And he repeatedly can't get on his tempo. And he starts to get a bit more aggravated until boom he throws a chair at him luckily he dodges it and then he comes up to him and he starts to insult him and come at him about his family. He starts to get aggravated with him not getting the tempo right so he makes him count and then every 4 seconds he starts to slap him. This part of the movie is one of the most extreme parts especially because it's his first day and had to be one of his worst days in music class.
The message I get from this film is that greats came from pain and being pushed past their limits. And he shows that because he wants Nieman to be great by putting obstacles in front of him and seeing how high he can jump over those obstacles. And his teaching ethic is unmatched; it's not something everyone does, not something anyone does. He mentions one person who taught a great drummer ¨the bird¨ he said that his teacher one day threw a cymbal at his head and it made him and that without that there would have probably been no bird.
The characters for this short film were phenomenal. The student Nieman I say played a great role in this short film. He seemed like a nerdy kid who never seemed to experience that type of treatment. and the teacher seemed like he didn't care he seemed like a very angry enforcing teacher which is a great combination. He wants them to succeed but in his way by his terms.
This movie overall was a great short film and also a great movie. I really enjoyed watching it. This short film has a lot of emotion in just a short amount of time. It gets you really interested in just a short amount of time and makes you say well sh*t, where's the movie at !!
