Robert DeNiro plays a temperamental boxer in this powerful movie. In this semi-realistic biography of the boxer Jake LaMotta, DeNiro goes from laughing to punching in a matter of seconds.

The movie is set in the 1940's and 50's, when fights were thrown (set up with a fixed outcome before the fight even started so that bettors could be guaranteed money) on a regular basis and everybody knew everybody. Jake LaMotta's brother, played by Joe Pesci, is a man familiar with some “friends” from the Italian-American community, and helps set up some thrown fights. Interspersed with fight footage and full of interesting plotlines, this movie is a must watch. The fight footage is staged, filmed by DeNiro and various other actors, but very realistic, from the actual fight to the corner scenes. The plot evolves with affairs, lies, and loss, and it sets up for a fit ending.

Raging Bull may seem boring at first, but don't be discouraged. The plot really picks up after a little bit. The acting is excellent and so is the directing. Raging Bull is a must see movie for any boxing fan or any movie fan.
