Inside Out Review
Have you ever wondered what is going on inside someone's mind? If the answer is no, you should probably practice some deeper thinking. If the answer is yes, the movie Inside Out will give you an inside look on the emotions that live in your brain. Inside Out was released June 19, 2015. I was ten when the movie came out and I watched it right away because of all the talk my parents heard about it.
This movie is centered around an 11 year old girl and her two parents moving to a different state and getting adjusted to their new environment. As the whole family is struggling with the move the movie focuses on Riley. She goes through much self discovery and growth as she deals with the challenges of moving away from her friends and home state. Riley is having an extra hard time with all this change because her sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Joy (Amy Poeler) got lost in the back skirts of Riley's mind. While Sadness and Joy are finding their way back to headquarters the only emotions RIley is left with is Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and DIsgust (Mindy Kaling).
The main themes people will get out of this movie is growth and self discovery. Throughout the movie Riley grows into herself and her new environment. She discovers how to balance her emotions and makes many new memories. Inside Out is a kids movie but speaks on very topics very heavily related to adult problems. For example Riley has the pressure of being happy from her parents on her shoulders. She also is left feeling numb as Joy and Sadness leave headquarters.
One part of this movie that stood apart to me was the animation. Each emotion had a light glow around them. The colors in the movie played a big part. The core memories were extra vibrant, the everyday memories were bright, and the forgotten memories were fading away until they disappeared into black dust. This helped the viewer keep track of which memories were which and where the characters were throughout the movie.
The soundtrack for Inside Out was composed by Micheal Giacchino. All the music is based around the same song that opened the movie, Bundle of Joy. This is an instrumental piece that feels nostalgic. Each emotion has a different sound/theme. Giacchino does an amazing job at matching the music to elevate the emotions felt throughout the movie.
Overall I believe this is a must watch for all age groups and will bring tears to everyone's eyes (I can say from personal experience). A second inside out movie will be released this summer. Inside Out two will introduce more grown up topics, mainly focused around puberty. Riley is now 12 years old.

I go to Arrowhead Highschool. I am taking a composition class and my teachers is Mrs. McCann. Our assignment was to write a review about something so I chose Inside Out because I just watched the movie again a few weeks ago.
