12 Years a Slave
The movie “12 Years a Slave” is based on the book “Twelve Years a Slave”, a true story written about the author (Solomon Northup [1808- 1863?]) own experiences.
In the beginning of the movie, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is a talented violinist in small town New York, with a wonderful family. He is ripped from his life when some men promise a job but capture him and sell him to slave trader!!! He is sent to Louisiana where he is sold to a plantation owner who puts him to work clearing forest. After he is sold to three different owners. At the last place he works with a Canadian architect who sends word to his family that Solomon is still alive. A man from his hometown comes to get Solomon and bring him home. At home he finds his oldest daughter is married and has named her son after Solomon.
