If you were a 2010s kid you surely would remember turning on the TV and hearing this iconic tune play on screen, “On adventure with the coolest creatures, from the oceans to the trees. The brothers Kratt are going places, you never get to see (Ah-ah). We're gonna save some animals today with...Creature power!”. Soon after two brothers would jump out on the screen along with several animals at their side. I remember jumping from my seat in excitement every time the tune started playing and getting ready to watch the next adventure they would get into. The ‘Wild Kratts’ was a PBS Kids television show that aired back in early 2010s about the brothers Kratts and their encounters with wild animals around the world. The show really worked because it provided insightful information about animals for young kids to learn in a fun and digestible way.

The brothers Kratts, Martin and Chris, are American zoologists and the main characters of the show. They travel around the world in a turtle shaped aircraft with their friends Aviva, Jimmy, and Koki in search of special wildlife moments. Along the way, they encounter several villains who want to use animals for their personal benefit like Zach Varmitech, Donita Donata, and Chef Gourmand. The formula for a classic episode is the brothers finding an animal in the wild, encountering a problem and using their “Creature power” to solve it. Most episodes go like this besides a couple wish include the villains or are two parters. Although most episodes follow this formula they’re actually quite unique in their own way. Most of the problems they encounter with the animals are on of a kind and the way they solve it is as well. One thing that stays the same no matter the episode, problem, or the animal is the use of the “Creature power”.

“Creature power” is a simple concept but is done well and fun, making it the main attraction of the show for many. Many fans eagerly wait to see what the Kratt brothers would use their “Creature powers” for next. Creature power is a wrist band which allows the person wearing it to transform to an animal of their choice through a DNA collection of several animals. From there on they transform and also obtain the animal’s abilities. The writers of the show use this as a tool to not only maintain kid’s attention with the colorful and fun designs but also help kids learn problem solving skills along side animals. Kids love animals whether they are a  small  lizard or a big elephant and the writers use this knowledge to provide animal related problems to kids and ways to solve them. It not only teaches kids cognitive skills but also kindness and helpfulness.

The “Wild Kratts” has become a core part for many 2010s kids childhood and learning journey.  From it’s catchy tune, lovable cast, and important development skills for kids, it has been a great show for kids to to tune in to. The purpose of children cartoons is to entertain, but this show went beyond just that to entertain but also teach. Teach important skills that children will need later in their future. Sp if you’re looking for something to put on the TV while your kid eats or needs to be entertained, the “Wild Kratts” is a great show to tune in to.
