Across the Atlantic MAG
Peering at glimpses of my life
Wishing she couldbe beside me
On a trip we never took
Across the deep AtlanticOcean
Back to her home,
Up the rocky coast
Over the greenrolling hills
To a place so familiar:
Her thatched-roofcottage
Where hot tea and soda bread
Sit on the kitchentable
Waiting to be eaten over good conversation
I tellher
As I stare at her silvery hair
That I admire the woman sheis
Her strength and relentlessness
For I know that
Her haironly turned
After years of dedication to her job
and her threechildren
I tell her
I wish this were reality
That I couldtaste the sweet raisins
of the soda bread
and feel the tea warmmy body
Coating my sore throat
But for now
I can only praythat
She really watches over her granddaughter
Seeing me blossom
Into the woman
She once was
In that thatched-roofcottage
Across the Atlantic
