Ode to the Blueberry
A berry of blue, almost a purple hue;
The color of royalty, wisdom, and light.
Sweet or sour, it might be a gamble,
Will you Roll the dice?
Neither are a loss.
You grow not in pure dirt,
not in hard soil,
But in sandy mounds.
You grow where no sweet plant would grow.
You don’t grow tall, like a banana tree,
Your fruit falls off cleanly, not a knife to be seen.
A sour berry is notable,
But in a package that size,
it’s a burst of flavor.
You won’t know what hit you,
Because,
Right after the sour,
Here comes the sweet.
Like a squirt of lemon on chicken;
You add zest to our life when we need it most,
And calm it down right after that.
