The Path That Led to Nowhere
I walked so very far today
Much further than before
Past the house, and past the farm
on the path that led to nowhere
all alone I trudged along
resigned and brave of face
the path was windy, long and curved
leading to a better place
the beauty was astounding
continually I slowed to stare
I must have walked for days
perhaps but only hours
The time would fly
then stop and stare
me deep down in the eyes
and catch me unaware
on the path that led to nowhere
I did not hurry, did not rush
for I would get there when I did
As I approached the end
my steps slowed to a crawl
not yet! at last!
I was at the end
of the path that led to nowhere
I disappeared that day
vanished with no trace
as I stared into the abyss
on the path that led to nowhere
my eyes grew wide, my limbs grew tense
as I waited, waited,
gone
