Principles
Principles, apparently, aren’t hard to cast aside
For people to whom the mass opinion’s a matter.
Some, with little cause, allow their morals to shatter;
In some people, the most noble conscience has died.
So many unscrupulous scoundrels allied
Against humble principles they’ve beaten to batter,
Left for dead, dropped to the ground with a clatter
I looked at the scene with a hung head and sighed.
One must stand alone against this oppression,
For all but oneself is controlled by some other
And only one protest is enough to raise doubt.
My most noble conscience still in possession,
I stand in defense of these principles, my brothers,
And mustering a loud, lucid voice, I cry out.
