The Battle
It is the eve of battle,
The night before,
The bloody morning,
The raging war,
Flaming passion pervades the air,
Saying goodbye was never
Fair,
Women and wives cry in fear,
Of losing the ones they hold so dear,
Last love encounters,
Ragged kisses in the night,
This is farewell,
Before the oncoming fight,
Sleepless and wary,
They trudge on the field,
Where the battle commences,
Where men cease
To feel,
Screams of tension settle there,
It’s hard to fight
When the fight aint fair,
But sacrifice is necessary,
If you care,
Promises broken,
Words unspoken,
Lives were taken,
And souls were frozen,
So what do you fight for?
What is your cross to bear?
Who makes the flame inside you
Burn?
And who has your heart,
Ensnared?
Answer these questions,
But do not hesitate,
Because as these men have learned,
The battle will not wait.
