Suzanne Collins incorporates all of the seven yardsticks within her book ‘Catching Fire.’ In ‘Catching Fire’ readers will be intrigued due to the clarity of her writing. Collins writes in a speech that is easily understandable by teenagers. A reader does no need to re-read her work in order to interpret it. Suzanne takes her readers on an adventure with the use of her articulate writing. I felt like I was inside of the story and going through the same experiences as the characters. Nothing is in this book is like real life, so I was able to experience a different world. The fast-moving suspense made for an exotic storyline that encompassed my mind. The story is fictional and there is not a major reflection of reality. The images depicted in the novel are impeccable and allows for a reader to be admirable towards her work. Suzanne Collins uses vivid images within her writing in order to appeal to the senses. Her language is creative, interesting, and elevated. While reading this book there are pieces that did not fit together all at once. It is similar to solving a puzzle, in a sense, because all of the pieces are not assembled in a certain order. However; it all comes together when it is finished. That is exactly how this book felt. Suzanne Collins did a masterful job putting together the pieces of the novel. Everything was natural flowing and all of the parts fit perfectly together. This book strengthened my personal beliefs. It allowed me to learn about a different view of life. The society in ‘Catching Fire’ is a dystopia and the people are treated immorally. My beliefs about freedom and liberty were strengthened by observing how corrupt it is to treat people the way they were treated in this book. I was able to find significant insights and important issues within this novel. I would not consider this novel to be extremely profound, but simple; however, still important. If you analyze this book deeply you can see the hidden messages. The message revealed to me was that people are not to be treated unfairly. Every human deserves respect and freedom to live their life. Nobody should be able to coerce another human being against their will. It also displays how society needs a stable government because without one uprising and rebellion may occur. Collins also shows the deep truths of human nature. She shows how normal people can transform into savages when placed in an adverse environment. All in all I would recommend this book to teenagers who enjoy action and adventure stories. It was a great novel and Suzanne Collins is a masterful author.
