Not only does Columbine by Dave Cullen turn pages so fast that you read in within days, but it also sheds light on what really happened April 20, 1999. The book itself is written to read like a fiction book but is horrifyingly real. Cullen destroys the notions of all the myths that have been and still are revolving around Columbine High School. His investigative skills are seamlessly integrated into his writing which makes it such a riveting recount of what happened. Something that i really enjoyed about this book was how Cullen did not focus just on the shooting. He had a years worth of time to lead up, and then proceed well after the massacre. However it was sometimes hard pressed to follow along the chronology of the events. This issue that I had though, was easily combated by the website reading companion that was a very helpful and informative. Cullen also made opinionated claims, while backed up by evidence, I believe he should have been more of a third party than he was. After reading this book I was a more knowledgeable and enlightened individual. Now, I can confidently speak about what happened at my high school with those who ask. Not only this but I now read non-fiction literature regularly. If you are asking yourself if you should read this book in my opinion you should. Not because I enjoyed reading it, but because it is a tragedy that everyone should be knowledgeable about.
